Chocolate chip homemade perfect bar

Homemade Perfect Bars Recipe: How to Make a Delicious Snack the Whole Family Will Love!

My family loves a yummy snack, especially when we can make it at home! Here’s a recipe that’s super simple to throw together, packed with protein and natural ingredients, and gives you a sweet little chocolate fix. I love picking up the 4-pack chocolate chip perfect bars at the store, but these homemade perfect bars are delicious, and I feel like I can share with the kids when I’m not limited to a box of 4 bars. I’m betting you will enjoy these as much as we have!

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 Cups Oats (or oat flour)

  • 1/2 Cup Vanilla Protein Powder (my favorite for this recipe is Orgain Vanilla Bean)

  • 1/2 Tsp Salt

  • 1 Cup Natural Peanut Butter

  • 2/3 Cup Honey

  • 2 Tsp Vanilla Extract

  • 2 Tab Melted Coconut Oil

  • 1 1/2 Cups Chocolate Chips (I like to use Bake Believe or Lily’s to minimize added sugars for this recipe) *See note 1.

Directions

  • Start by grinding your oats into flour. If you have a Vitamix or strong blender, just blend for several seconds until it becomes a fine powder. You may need to scrape from the edges once or twice to get all the oats. *See note 2.
  • Pour everything but the chocolate chips into the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Mix ingredients well with a spoon. Use your hands to blend the flour and protein powder into the rest of the ingredients.
  • Add chocolate chips and continue to mix in with your hands.
  • Refrigerate for about an hour or until mixture has a thicker cookie dough consistency.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut into bars. Store in fridge.

Notes

  • *If you don’t want the bars as chocolatey, you can do 1 cup of chocolate chips. I’ve made it this way, and it still had plenty of chocolate chips; I just love chocolate, so I usually do the 1 1/2 cups!
  • *If you don’t have a strong blender like a Vitamix, just use store-bought oat flour.

If you have a Vitamix or other powerful blender, just mix until oats are a fine, floury texture. A lot of times, I have to knock a little of the edges halfway thru.

Dump all of the ingredients into a glass dish. It’s great to use the same dish you will be storing it in. The easiest way is to get your hands dirty and just mix everything together. Start with the wet ingredients and gradually work all of the dry ingredients into it until it’s a smooth mixture. Then, add the chocolate chips and do the same thing. After all of the ingredients are mixed in, press it down evenly throughout the dish. Refrigerating the bars helps them to hold together better. I like to cut them after they’ve been in the fridge, so they don’t fall apart.

So…Are these bars healthy? They are full of natural ingredients. The protein powder and peanut butter add protein, which is good. Because of the honey and coconut oil, they do have some fats and natural sugars, making them higher in carbs than some protein bars. I like to use them as an afternoon snack or evening treat, while still sticking to whole, healthy foods. I try to hold my kids off until afternoon snack, but they’ve been begging to eat them for breakfast and lunch. The last batch I made only lasted a few days at our house! These perfect bars are definitely a simple snack that feels like a treat!
